The Radiography program provides a means for the student to acquire the skills necessary to perform duties of an entry-level technologist. Students enrolled in the program remain under direct supervision by staff technologists and Clinical Instructors while gaining clinical experience in the Radiology Department. Students progress clinically through the program by successful completion of the following competency levels:
Clinical Education I:
An orientation phase where the student develops an understanding of his/her role in the healthcare setting and Radiology environment while observing various radiographic procedures.
Clinical Education II:
An assistance phase where the student actively participates in a variety of diagnostic procedures by working with Radiology staff to fulfill clinical requirements.
Clinical Education III:
A performance phase where the student works to complete clinical objectives in the general diagnostic area in addition to rotating through specialty areas to experience different modalities.
Clinical Education IV:
Working along side staff technologists under indirect supervision, the student radiographer completes senior final competency requirements and finishes clinical education.
Clinical education includes instruction in the following:
- chest and abdomen radiography
- head, neck and vertebral radiography
- skeletal radiography
- gastrointestinal radiography (fluoroscopic exams)
