Q: What is the length of Crozer's Internal Medicine Residency Program?
A: The Internal Medicine Residency is three years.
Q: How many residency positions are there per year?
A: There are eight per training year.
Q: When must Step 2 CS be passed?
A: Step 2 CS must be passed at the time of application on the first attempt.
Q: Is U.S. experience required?
A: It is preferred, but not required.
Q: How many electives are offered?
A: There are 2 elective blocks in the first year, 3 elective blocks in the second year, 3 elective blocks and 1 selective block in the third year .
Q: Are "away" electives allowed?
A: Yes. We do allow "away" electives within the United States, provided adequate notice is given and the required paperwork is completed. The resident must also be in good standing in the program.
Q: What is the typical call schedule?
A: First-year residents are on call every fourth night. Floor residents take call from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. while doing inpatient floor rotations when the night float takes over, allowing the R-1 to go home and rest. For second- and third-year residents, the call is twice a month only, again, while doing inpatient floor rotations
Q: Is there a night float system?
A: Yes. At 9:00 p.m., an R-1 night float relieves the on-call doctors who will go home. There is one R-2/3 night float who start at 6:30 p.m. Residents take call overnight twice a month only while on inpatient floor rotations.
Q: Where do the residents go after the completion of their residencies?
A: Many have gone on to fellowships including cardiology, pulmonary and critical care medicine, endocrinology, hematology and oncology and nephrology, among others. The remainder have entered practices in primary care and hospitalist positions.
Q: Are there research opportunities available?
A: All residents are required to participate in scholarly activity. The outcome of this project is presented twice a year. Residents have traveled both regionally and nationally to present their projects.
