Ashish Rana, M.D.
Vice Chairman, Department of Medicine
Program Director

Dr. Ashish Rana received his medical degree from the State University of New York-Stony Brook School of Medicine in 1992. Thereafter he completed his residency training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 1995, after which he went on to practice medicine at the University of Pennsylvania-Presbyterian Medical Center campus for two years. 
 

Dr. Rana joined the Crozer-Chester Medical Center in 1997 and began practice with Crozer Medical Associates. He is the Program Director and the course director of Evidenced-Based Medicine and actively participates in residency and student teaching. He also serves as the site director for the fourth year medical student subinternship rotation in Internal Medicine at Crozer. In April 2000 he was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He was nominated for the Golden Apple Teaching Award by the students of the graduating class of 2000 at Allegheny University Medical School (now Drexel University College of Medicine). In May 2005 he was appointed Associate Professor of Medicine at Temple University.

 

Dr. Rana's particular interest is evidence-based medicine, including incorporation of these principles into everyday practice. 

 

 

Paul D. Woolf, M.D.
Chairman, Department of Medicine

 

Dr. Paul Woolf received his medical degree at NYU School of Medicine in 1968, followed by an internship and residency at Bellevue Hospital-New York University Medical Center. He completed an Endocrinology/Metabolism fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center, after which he rose through the ranks to Professor of Medicine and Professor of Pathology and of Laboratory Medicine.

 

Dr. Woolf has published more than 85 manuscripts and chapters. His research emphasis has been on the regulation of pituitary function, thyroid pathology, and pathophysiology and hormone responses to acute stress and illness. In 1999, Dr. Woolf moved to the Philadelphia area and became Chairman of the Department of Medicine and Head of the Division of Clinical Research at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. He holds an appointment as Professor of Medicine at Temple University.

 

Dr. Woolf's particular interest is practice based learning projects.

 

 

David Lainoff, M.D.

Associate Program Director

Director, Ambulatory Care Internal Medicine Residency Program

Medical Director, Crozer Medical Associates

 

Dr. David Lainoff received his undergraduate degree from The Johns Hopkins University in 1987.  He received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1991, where he also completed his residency training in the Primary Care Program in Internal Medicine in 1994.   Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Lainoff served as the medical director of the Outpatient Department and Medical Clinic at Rochester General Hospital.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine.

 

Dr. Lainoff came to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in 2006.  He is the Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program.   In September 2006, Dr. Lainoff became the Medical Director of Crozer Medical Associates.  Dr. Lainoff holds a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine appointment at Temple University School of Medicine.

 

Dr. Lainoff’s interests include Medical Education, Quality Improvement, particularly in the Ambulatory setting, and utilizing the Chronic Care Model in health care delivery.  Dr. Lainoff is also a peer reviewer for UpToDate, and The Journal of General Internal Medicine.  

 

 

 
Dina F. Capalongo, D.O.
Chief, Division of General Internal Medicine
Program Director, Osteopathic Internal Medicine

Dr. Dina Capalongo received her undergraduate degree from Duquesne University in 1987 and completed medical school in 1991 at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She finished her Internal Medicine residency at Hahnemann University Hospital, where she was then appointed Chief Medical Resident. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Board of Osteopathic Internal Medicine (ABOIM).

 

Dr. Capalongo is also the Transitional Year Residency Program Director. She also serves as a clinician-educator for inpatient Internal Medicine and as preceptor for the resident ambulatory practice. She has been the recipient of the Dean's Award of Excellence in Clinical Teaching from medical students. Dr. Capalongo holds appointments as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine. Her interests include medical ethics and preventive medicine.

 


Karen S. Scoles, M.D.

Medical Director, Information Systems

 

Dr. Karen Scoles is a graduate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Rutgers Medical School. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia in 1986. She spent four years in ambulatory care in West Philadelphia as a National Health Service Corps Scholarship recipient. She returned to Jefferson as clinician-educator in the Department of Medicine in 1991.

 

Dr. Scoles came to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in 1995. Dr. Scoles has authored a number of chapters for textbooks and Medical Clinics of North America. She is a Medical Director of the Information Systems Department of Crozer-Keystone Health System.  She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. In 2004, Dr. Scoles was named Outstanding Educator of the Year for the Department of Medicine at Crozer-Chester Medical Center

 

Her clinical interests include women's health and medical informatics. She holds an appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine.

 

 


Deborah Kahn, M.D.

Medical Director, Wallingford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
 

 

Dr. Deborah Kahn received her undergraduate degree from Clark University in Worcester, Mass., and completed post-baccalaureate pre-medical coursework at the University of Illinois. She received her medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago and took her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Kahn also  Board Certified in Internal Medicine, and Board Certified in Geriatrics and has the appointed position of Assistant Professor of Medicine at Temple University.

 

In addition to her work at Temple and her involvement in residency education at Crozer, Dr. Kahn is an active community-service volunteer and an associate member of the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine (ACP-ASIM).
