Ballroom Dance Classes

Healthplex ballroom dance instructors, Bob Martin and Diane Seltzer

Ballroom, Latin and Social dance classes at the Healthplex provide a great environment for participants to meet and get to know new friends at the same time learning dance steps. Dancing teaches us the old-fashioned values of long-term physical and mental discipline. It also helps contribute to improving physical skills like balance and coordination. Dancing teaches us how to have fun while learning something new. Researchers found that participation in dance-based therapy can improve balance and gait in older adults. Improved functionality among seniors can also decrease their risk of falling and reduce costly injuries.

Participating in just 30 minutes of non-stop Ballroom Dancing increases your heart rate into your fat burning zone, producing benefits equal to that of a low impact fitness class. What could be more fun than getting a bit sweaty burning some serious calories and getting fit with your partner. Ballroom Dancing is also a great stress reliever. It stimulates the brain. It builds confidence, alertness and a good attitude. The Healthplex Sports Club offers Ballroom, Latin, and Social Dance Classes.

All classes are led by experienced Healthplex instructors, Bob Martin and Diane Seltzer.

Bob Martin has been a ballroom Latin dancer for 24 years and has been teaching for 15 years, including 10 at the Healthplex Sports Club. He has performed exhibitions in fox-trot, waltz, swing, cha-cha, rumba, tango, salsa, bolero and Viennese waltz. Diane Seltzer has been dancing for 20 years and teaching with Bob since 2008. Like millions of others, both see dancing as the most social of the artistic endeavors and the most artistic of the social enterprises. Bob and Diane’s mission is to take any fear or mystery out of dancing and turn the experience into a fun team sport. Teaching’s greatest reward is to see a couple’s early apprehension replaced by smiles of accomplishment and a glow of confidence.
